Welcome once again to Anime of the week #40 Do you like war? the never ending conflict between men and god? what about lolis? well, then you are on the right place 😉 The anime is Youjo Senki.

Aired:

Jan 6,2017 to Mar 31, 2017 (winter season of 2017).

Synopsis:

Tanya Degurechaff is a young soldier infamous for predatorial-like ruthlessness and an uncanny, tactical aptitude, earning her the nickname of the “Devil of the Rhine.” Underneath her innocuous appearance, however, lies the soul of a man who challenged Being X, the self-proclaimed God, to a battle of wits—which resulted in him being reincarnated as a little girl into a world of magical warfare. Hellbent on defiance, Tanya resolves to ascend the ranks of her country’s military as it slowly plunges into world war, with only Being X proving to be the strongest obstacle in recreating the peaceful life she once knew. But her perceptive actions and combat initiative have an unintended side effect:  propelling the mighty Empire into becoming one of the most powerful nations in mankind’s history.

My Opinion:

Youjo senki is a good show, it was a show with good characters, a interesting world, the music was great, and it had a fair share of comedy. This show had me on the edge of my sit from episode to episode. with the great opening of Jingo Jungle by MYTH & ROID. followed by a great imagery of what things to come (and a great amount of foreshadowing). Initially I had my doubts about the whole anime, with a war centered story who also had magic on it. But surprisingly enough, it worked quite well, they explain what the magic can do, and what can’t. Making sure Tanya doesn’t go Deus Ex Machina (haha. a joke). The fights were pleasing to watch, because it felt that they were dancing, each movement is treated with such care that it’s scary to watch. and the music on each fight, god it was beautiful. The attention to details is surprisingly good. At one point Tanya is having a dinner with a higher up, and she was seating on a booster chair. While it is funny, it also gives character development. It show that the higher ups believes on Tanya’s qualities as a soldier, but they also believe that Tanya is still a child. the show also prefers to “show” the story instead of telling it to you. They will show a character with a wedding ring, and they show expect you to think “he loves his family” because the show doesn’t go out of his way to make the character say “I love my family”. and It’s great. rewatching this series is one of my favorite things, because I always find something new. But anyways, this anime was one of my favorite of winter season.  wondering which great plan Tanya had in stock for us, and how that plan was going to backfire her. Thanks for your time, see you next time!

DEUS VULT.
